Don’t Forget Your Jacket
Don’t forget your jacket when you head out for a short hike or day trip. You never know when a spring storm may overtake you. A lightweight jacket to provide protection and comfort when the wind gets nippy, will keep you warm and dry.
When my friend Starr and I were returning from a hike up the Ward Creek Trail last fall, we encountered a group of five people coming up the trail, headed for the summit. It was late in the afternoon and there was no way they could reach their destination and return before nightfall. The day was unseasonably warm and they were dressed only in tee shirts, jeans and boots. As I recall, only one of the women had a sweater tied about her waist. What were they thinking? I am sure they spent a miserable night on the mountain.
Unfortunately, every year, hundreds of hikers, bicyclers and campers needlessly experience extreme discomfort, hypothermia and even death because they didn’t bother to pack along extra dry clothing.
I was delighted to discover the perfect jacket for my needs. Webtogs offers lots of great gear and it was there that I found the ideal survival jacket for my budget.
A hybrid performance jacket built for superior comfort and mobility, the North Face Peregrine Winstopper Jacket is constructed from a tough, hard wearing outer fabric, a windstopper membrane and a soft wicking inner liner. Lightweight and durable, the Peregrine offers suberb protection from rain and snow. Weighing only 16 ozs. it is easy to carry in the smallest backpack. The bright orange color of the jacket offers a measure of safety during hunting season. I don’t want to be mistaken for an elk.
