The energy of the island is vibrant, strong and powerful. I can feel the pulse of the earth, a strong and steady throbbing of a valiant heart. If one is calm and still, you can actually feel the surging growth of the rainforest. Some vines grow at the rate of over 100 feet per year – think of that, it is about four inches a day. You can almost watch a leaf unfold, a root to wander or a brilliant flower unfold.

I am heartened by the green living ethics and environmentally friendly practices that are part and parcel of daily life here on Kauai, Hawaii, the Garden Island.

The grocery stores and markets I have visited strongly promote organic produce and products. They feature local produce, organic eggs and fresh seafood. A gourmet delight of the finest and the freshest. Although many items are higher priced than on the mainland, the choices are amazing. It makes it easy to choose organic for your green lifestyle.

Eco-friendly choices are available for many products and services. Many of the the shops feature elegant designer apparel produced from bamboo, hemp, silk and the purest organic cotton.

The Farmer’s Market in Hanalei, Kauai, Hawaii, held every Saturday morning, is an outstanding example of community involvement and commitment. The market is a fun and entertaining time for young and old alike. The market has a healthy, happy and contagious feeling of good cheer; friends and visitors sharing the bounty of this idyllic island paradise. Everyone is smiling!

All of the fruit and vegetable vendors sell only organically grown produce. Fresh from the fields that morning, the selection was overwhelming ; sun-flower sprouts, kale, swiss chard, carrots, tomatoes, onions, leeks and so many different varieties of fruit, many that I had never seen before.
