Beside The Garden Gate

The rain-forest jungle foliage of Kauai, the Garden Island is spectacular. I am absolutely amazed at the diversity of tropical plants I encounter at every bend in the road. Here are a few of my favorites that I have planted in the garden.

Succulents flourish on Kauai. Carol Ann’s garden is quite moist, so I found a sunny rocky ledge on which to establish a few starter plants. I am confident they will acclimate and thrive.

I found the mysterious little plant below growing in abundance on an old wall, it has a slight tinge of pink and is quite delicate. Some of the mature plants on the wall had grown to about over 8 inches tall and about two inches wide. They seem to spread easily. I planted 20-30 “starts” in the rockery beside the fence in full sun.

Day lilies are a long time favorite. I was pleased to find they grow rapidly and multiply in this wonderful ecosystem. I have added six established plants to the rockery. They will spread out and cover bare spots with glorious golden color.

Warmest greetings from Kauai – looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

This baby bird is always close by when I am working in the garden. He has a joyous song that adds to the music of the day.
